Dear Ms.
Smurzynski,
This is in
response to your
advertisement in the
Upper Rogue Independent,
March 19, 2002 for a
Chief of Police, City of
Shady Cove. I had the
privilege of hearing our
interim Police Chief
Robert McKean talk at a
meeting of the Taxpayers
Association. I was
impressed with his
delivery, his background,
his law enforcement
experience and his
philosophy of what a
Police Dept. can and
should do for a
community.
I urge you
to consider hiring Police
Chief Robert McKean as
our permanent police
chief on a part-time
basis. I feel that in a 24
hour week he would
accomplish what a
full-time police chief
would do in a 40 hour
week.
After
reading this morning's
Mail Tribune about the
drug bust that Chief
McKean's department was
responsible for, I am
doubly impressed. My hat
is off to the fine work
that has been done in
this police department
since November 3, 2001.
Police Chief Robert
McKean is a fine police
officer and it would be a
shame if Shady Cove did
not hire him. It would
be Shady Cove's loss.
All the citizens of Shady
Cove want a city that is
free of crime and drugs.
I have lived here for
almost four years and
from the beginning we had
heard rumors of drug
running in Shady Cove,
but nothing was ever done
about it. Thank goodness
we now have a police
chief who takes action.
I also urge
you to consider hiring
another police officer
for Shady Cove. Three
officers cannot possibly
give this city 24 hour
coverage. Let's begin to
have a police force who
does more than just hand
our traffic tickets. We
want police officers who
are willing to stay on
the Shady Cove police
force longer than one
year, perhaps a pay raise
would be an incentive.
Thank you,
Shirley
