Cost
of Democracy? Isn't
voting a good thing? So the
problem is the cost of
elections, the $10,000
the city spent on the
redistricting challenges,
the water district
boundary adjustment to
exclude MHP voters. All
the while our federal tax
money is going to spread
democracy in the Middle
East. To have a valid
majority citizen
consensus on spending
public moneys is what the
USA is all about and the
lingering USA Armed
Forces Veterans living
here are somewhat adamant
about this.
On
to the sewer update;
The
validity of the proposed
update should be a
question! The election is
being held but with facts
rather veiled from a
public left uninformed.
The validity of the issue
is left to an assumption.
Do we need/want this
update? A 40-year loan on
a project with less that
10 years of possible
utility?
This
update should be
presented in 2 scenarios,
City
water availability--- population
(now 2450) will double
(4900) in less than 10
years. The present sewer
site with an update
cannot possibly handle
more than 4000
population. Per SC Public
Works Dept. the 2.8 acres
will not accommodate real
growth. A NEW SITE WILL
BE REQUIRED ASAP at a
cost of many more
MILLIONS of DOLLARS. We
had better start saving
up!
No
city water availability
--- the city
population growth will be
slow and the present
sewer billing of
Operation and Maintenance
moneys presently being
collected will finance
necessary updates. The
population figure of 4000
still stands but it will
be further into the
future. Saved SDC funds
can provide a grand nest
egg for a probable new
site and expansion.
To
worry about the economy,
economic conditions, and
savings realized with
timeliness, well you tell
me!
Spending
any Shady Cove Sewer
users money on chlorine
use must be questioned
The outdated chorine
injection process is
obsolete and this process
soon must be eliminated
and changed to a safer
process. A proposed large
expense at the plant to
insure the total removal
of any residual chlorine
in the out-fall to the
river is part of this
design. To eliminate the
use of chlorine is now a
safety recommendation,
but when will the use of
chlorine in a city sewage
facility be outlawed?
Could be just a few
years, per Shady Cove
Public Works.
To
eliminate the spending of
city moneys on projects
of such short lives is
exactly what merits the
cost of any moneys spent
on an election.
To
have the vast majority of
the citizens behind,
favoring, trusting and
together with financing a
project is the grease
that runs a Democracy
smoothly. Just ask
President GW Bush
Question:
If
the present Shady Cove
sewer plant had been
completed to it's
original 4000 population
design, would we not now
be planning for the
eventual site that will
be able to accommodate
the future?
George
did state that the plant
can now handle 450,000
gallon flows, that is a
population of 4000. Also
stated was that present
dry weather flows at the
SC sewer plant is 280,000
gallons.
To
continue a $100,000
yearly manhole repair
program to reduce ground
water infiltration is
wise and necessary in any
case.
